SMIFutures Board Reflects on a Year of Success and Plans for the Future During Glasgow Visit
This week, the SMIFutures board visited Glasgow for a series of events. They started with a tour of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and then enjoyed a Christmas dinner and quiz on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they held their board meeting at Malin Group, followed by a tour of BAE Govan. The group took the opportunity to reflect on the successful first year of SMIFutures and to look forward to the upcoming year. Many thanks to everyone involved in organising and participating in this event.
Members and Guests Gather for SMI’s Annual Dinner
Two hundred guests gathered for SMI’s Annual Dinner at One Great George Street, London on November 30th. They were welcomed by SMI’s President John Howie, Babcock International Group, and after-dinner enjoyed a presentation from The Ocean Cleanup.
Marine Science & Technology Group's Christmas Lunch
On Tuesday 5th December, SMI’s Marine Science and Technology Group (MSTG) council celebrated 2023’s achievements and looked forward to 2024 at their Council Christmas lunch.

Maritime Defence and Security Group Visit to Portsmouth
This week, the Maritime Defence and Security Group Council, along with representatives from other member companies, conducted a two-day visit to Portsmouth. The visit was held on Monday and Tuesday, 27th and 28th November 2023. The group participated in various activities during the visit, such as briefs and tours at Portsdown Technology Park and the Maritime Integration and Systems Centre. They also enjoyed dinner in the Historic Dockyard and visited Navy Command Headquarters, including an MDSG Council Meeting.
Celebrating a Year of Success with SMI CMG Council Members
On Wednesday 29th November, the SMI CMG celebrated another productive year with their CMG Council Members during the SMI CMG Council Christmas lunch. Helen Stephen, Director of Commercial Marine Group (CMG) and Ports & Terminals Group (PTG), said, " It was great to reflect and celebrate another productive year with so many Council Members today."

SMI's Week at Europort
Helen Stephen attended Europort, which took place in the world port city of Rotterdam this week. As organisers of the UK Pavilion, SMI supported 8 companies at this important trade show and exhibition, which focuses on special purpose vessels representing a significant market for the UK supply chain.
SMI's Week at the Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase (MATS)
This week, Emma Johnson has been exhibiting at the Marine Autonomy and Technology Showcase (MATS) held at the National Oceanography Centre in Southampton.Emma shared, "MATS has been great this week, with a huge range of fascinating presentations and good conversations."
