SMI Chief Executive, John Murray, to retire in the summer

The Society of Maritime Industries (SMI) has announced that its long-standing Chief Executive, John Murray, intends to retire at the end of June.

John was originally employed by the British Marine Equipment Council (BMEC) which was renamed the Society of Maritime Industries in July 2001 to reflect its membership which came from a broader area of the maritime engineering enterprise.

Russell Gould, Chairman of the SMI Board, commented:

“SMI is the leading trade association for the maritime engineering sector and is recognised by government and associated stakeholders alike. John has been instrumental in positioning SMI as the organisation to join for any company wishing to develop its business in the sector and lobby for improvements in the maritime business environment.”

He continued:

“The Board is presently undergoing the process of finding a successor for John and will make an announcement in due course.”
