Skills for Green Jobs Workstream
Help us to identify the green skills gap in the Maritime sector by getting involved in the Skills for Green Jobs workstream.
As you will know, SMI and Maritime UK have responsibility for coordinating delivery of the industry's recommendations within Maritime 2050. One of the key pillars of the strategy is 'people' and within that, there is a major focus, not only to take ownership of the “skills to support green jobs” agenda but to oversee the development and deployment of a comprehensive Matrix of Green Jobs/Skills in the sector. To respond to that recommendation, the Maritime Skills Commission has partnered with Cornwall Marine Network (CMN) to deliver the Skills for Green Jobs workstream.
Further workstream engagement opportunities:
Supporting the surveys, which are primarily aimed at the operational workforce within an organisation, will be some hybrid Regional Stakeholder Workshops (dates and locations to be announced soon), where high-level decision-making members of organisations can assist in providing their perspective from a more strategic point of view. This will assist in providing a well-rounded bigger picture as to the demand and importance of skills within the full hierarchy of organisations operating in the Maritime sector.
Should any participants prefer not to complete the survey, or are unable to attend the scheduled Regional Stakeholder Workshops, there is the opportunity to engage with the Maritime Sustainability Skills Manager (Workstream Manager), Kit Williams, via a 1:1 meeting, where the topics covered within the survey/workshops can be discussed in detail. To arrange a meeting with Kit, please contact him here.
The findings from this survey will feed in to the Skills for Green Jobs report, will shed some light on the green skills shortage in the maritime sector, and ultimately assist in populating a
comprehensive matrix highlighting the demand and supply of green skills training both on a regional and national scale.
By completing this survey candidly and honestly, the true extent of the skills gap and shortages in the sector can be realised and remedied.
Should you wish to discuss the Skills for Green Jobs workstream with Kit Williams, please do not hesitate to get in contact.
