Department for Transport launches £1.5m International Green Corridors Fund (IGCF) - CMDC 5
Maritime Minister, Lord Davies, visited Wales on 5 April 2024 to kickstart the bidding process for the £1.5 million funding aimed at establishing zero emission shipping routes to and from the UK. This pot aims to develop cleaner journeys for passengers and freight, create new jobs and boost the economy.
The fifth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC5) will support feasibility studies focused on accelerating the development of ‘green corridors’. These studies will map out infrastructure required along the routes to enable vessels to access green fuels and power charging systems, as well as look at further regulations required to push the industry towards decarbonisation. Importantly, it aims to achieve our net zero commitments without imposing additional costs to taxpayers by finding ways to adapt the costs of green fuels, to bring down the costs in future.
The £1.5m IGCF forms the fifth round of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) and aims to facilitate greater engagement between UK organisations and international stakeholders to develop a comprehensive understanding of current or potential routes by undertaking feasibility studies. These will accelerate the development of Green Corridors and drive forward the targets established by the Clydebank Declaration.
The partner countries are the Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, and Ireland. The IGCF is composed of 4 separate elements, corresponding to routes between the UK and each partner country. Each fund will open and be publicised separately before they open for bids.
The IGCF is managed by our deliver partner Innovate UK. The full competition scope and eligibility criteria will be available on the competition webpage. Innovate UK are running a briefing event for the UK-Ireland fund this week (Wednesday 10th), more information is here: Summary - International Green Corridors Fund: UK – IE Feasibility Studies Competition Briefing (cvent.com)
