Become a Maritime UK Industry Ambassador
The Society of Maritime Industries and Maritime UK have responsibility for coordinating delivery of the industry's recommendations within Maritime 2050. One of the key pillars of the strategy is 'people', and within that, there is a major focus on promoting maritime as a career to those in schools and colleges. To respond to that recommendation, we partnered with Inspiring the Future in September 2020 to establish a maritime industry ambassador programme.
The initiative recruits people from all corners of the sector as volunteers to support young people who will learn by interacting with employees from within the sector as part of their education.
The partnership with Inspiring the Future provides a vital bridge between young people, educational providers and maritime employers. With over 1000 schools and colleges in the UK already using the platform, our mission now is to grow the number of maritime ambassadors available to those schools in all corners of the country. All ambassadors receive training and regular briefings to support them in talking about the breadth of the sector, as well as their own area of experience and specialism.
Maritime ambassadors have spoken to 55,000 young people so far
To date, over 55,000 thousand young people have been engaged with the sector by an industry ambassador. We now want to double that and need your help to do so.
Introductory webinar for potential ambassadors - 24 November 2022
You are invited to join us on 24th November 2022 for a webinar to learn more about being an ambassador. This briefing is for new ambassadors who have recently volunteered, those who have transferred across from the Careers at Sea Ambassador programme and for people who are interested in finding out more about what being an ambassador involves. You will hear about how the scheme works, the different types of activities you could be asked to support, and the resources available to help you. You will meet current ambassadors and be able to ask any questions you may have on the programme.
Supporting the careers and outreach programme

We very much hope that you will consider supporting this mission as part of Maritime 2050. If you would like to discuss a bespoke engagement exercise for a large number of employees, do get in touch.
