Company Information
Summary:
Voith is a supplier of electric and mechanical propulsion drives and driveline technologies for marine applications. Suitable for main and auxiliary propulsion, Voith can provide a complete thruster solutions.
The Voith Group is a global technology company. With its broad portfolio of systems, products, services, and digital applications, Voith sets standards in the markets of energy, oil & gas, paper, raw materials and transport & automotive. Founded in 1867, the company today has more than 20,000 employees, sales of € 4.2 billion and with locations in over 60 countries worldwide is thus one of the larger family-owned companies in Europe.
The Group Division Voith Turbo is a specialist for intelligent drive technology, systems as well as tailor-made services. With its innovative and smart products, Voith offers highest efficiency and reliability. Customers from highly diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail and commercial vehicles rely on the advanced technologies and digital applications of Voith.
Propulsion
Be it out at sea or in port, on rivers or lakes - Voith’s custom-tailored propulsion systems ensure precise, prompt, and safe manoeuvring. Our propulsion solutions are specifically designed for all maritime tasks and requirements.
Propulsion system technology is key to operate vessels efficiently and with a high degree of safety. Matching the propulsion system to the vessel design is equally important. With more than 90 years of experience, Voith provides propulsion systems tailored to the application.
Voith was an early adopter of e-motor technology and remains at the forefront of the drive for decarbonisation, this evolution is supported by our own e-motor manufacturer (ELIN), supply of Drive technologies enabling Voith to be a complete propulsion provider.
Voith Schneider Propulsion
The Voith Schneider Propeller (VSP) provides propulsion, steering and roll stabilisation in one package, bringing greater operability to vessels and reducing fuel consumption. The latest evolution of the product with integral e-motor has further enhanced the efficiency of energy conversion making the VSP the best option for many applications.
Voith Inline Thruster
Voith developed this product since 2007 and has the most comprehensive range of thruster units available, form 50 kW to 1500 kW in two presentations, the thrusters are suitable for use as Tunnel thrusters, Drop down Azimuthing solutions. The rapid thrust generation complements the VSP to yield and optimum DP performance with a Voith propulsion full solution package.
Voith Linear Jet
The Linear Jet is the realisation of many years of R&D within Voith, the propulsor is suitable for speeds up to 40 knots, combining the simplicity of a fixed pitch propeller with the speed of a water jet the Linear Jet combines the best of both worlds. The fundamental hydrodynamics of the units give a very high efficiency over a wide range of speeds thus enabling mixed operating without compromising the fuel economy.
Project Support Services
Voith provides a significant level of support during the project phase through CFD studies, hull optimisation, numerical towing tanks and simulations. By using these techniques, we optimise not only the propulsor but also how to deploy the power to provide a minimum energy demand, other innovations such as hot standby and roll stabilisation can enhance the “useability” of the vessel.
Highly Flexible Couplings
The Highly Flexible Coupling products Voith is continuing the use of the well-established Kuesel coupling technology. We have over 35 years of experience of working with customers to perfect drive systems that are subjected to torsional vibrations.
The market requires couplings used in the marine application to be always reliable and have short maintenance periods. This is why increasing the lifetime of all marine drive line components is our major priority and they carry type approval from Bureau Veritas.
Cardan Shafts
Voith high-performance universal joint shafts offer the ideal combination of torque capacity, torsion and bending rigidity. We supply from standard universal joint shafts to customer-specific adaptations and custom designs. Our wide range of services includes technical consultation, simulation of torsional vibrations and measurement of operating parameters.
Cardan shaft manufactured by Voith can be built with the rolling element length compensation reducing noise and vibration transmitted into the connected parts.
Connecting couplings
Voith connection couplings transmit torque, backlash-free. They transfer the most torque in relation to size, which adds high performance and allows for more effective dimensioning of the driveline. Setting and releasing occurs hydraulically, which enables fast installation, service and maintenance. All models can be customized to suit existing, as well as newly designed interfaces.
Our product portfolio includes: -
- HyCon couplings for shaft-shaft or shaft-flange connections
- HyLoc couplings for shaft-hub connections
- HyGrip couplings for quick-release customer-specific shaft-hub connections
- Torque capacity available from 1 kNm to 20 000 kNm
Overload Protection Couplings
Torque limiting couplings from Voith protect all components in the driveline, allowing your equipment to work at a maximum capacity while still being protected from torque overload. In the event of a catastrophically high torque occurrence, the coupling disconnects the power flow protecting the driveline. This means that consequential damage is kept to a minimum, reducing down-stream driveline damage and keeping repair costs and time to a minimum.
Special designs provide additional advantages: -
- SafeSet - with instant release
- SafeSet EZi - with torque peak shaving and release
- SmartSet - with torque peak ride through and controlled release
- SlipSet - with torque peak shaving
Fluid Couplings
Constant-fill couplings from Voith dampen torsional vibrations, torque spikes shocks that originate from the engine and propeller. Furthermore, the hydrodynamic principle permits a relived load startup of the engine.
Power range: 100 kW to 3,650 kW
Fill-controlled couplings from Voith dampen torsional vibrations, torque spikes shocks that originate from the engine and propeller, but differ from constant-filled couplings, in that the filling level can be changed as the application requires. When emptied completely, the torque transmission through the fluid coupling between the engine to the driven machine is close to zero, due to hydrodynamic clutching function. This allows virtually load-free engine starts.
Power: 350 kW to 10,000 kW
Field support
Using the strength of our global network Voith provides 100% Voith factory trained personnel to care for the propulsion form routine health checks through to upgrades and overhauling, our teams of technicians provide optimum service for long service life.
Exploiting the power of interconnectivity remote monitoring, diagnostics are enabling assets to be managed effectively, enhancing operability, and avoiding unplanned events.
