Company Information
Summary:
Echion’s XNO® niobium-based anode material enables lithium-ion batteries to fast charge in less than 10 minutes, with high energy density and cycle life of over 10,000 cycles.
Echion’s anode material is based on niobium oxide, a readily available material that, when engineered by Echion, can deliver up to twice the energy and power densities of LTO (lithium titanate) lithium-ion battery cells. LTO battery cells are today’s standard ‘fast charging / long life, high safety’ battery chemistry and are commonly used. With higher volumetric and gravimetric energy and power densities, and the long cycle life expected in XNO® batteries, Echion’s XNO® battery anode material aims to deliver lower total cost of ownership on a £/kWh/cycle basis, when compared to batteries using LTO battery anode materials.
Echion has recently completed a successful series B funding round raising £29million to execute its go-to-market strategy to see its innovative niobium-based XNO® anode material, at A sample stage, utilised in real world applications, at volume. Echion’s longstanding partnership with the world’s leading producer of niobium, CBMM, will see the opening of a 2,000 tonne per year XNO® manufacturing facility this year. This provides Echion with the manufacturing capacity to satisfy the large and growing demand for XNO® across its global customer base of major cell manufacturers and OEMs.
Our differentiated technology helps cell manufacturers gain a technical and commercial advantage in high-value, fast-growing markets where end-users require the safety, low total cost of ownership, and unique performance mix offered by our XNO® anode materials. This includes industrial and commercial e-mobility markets: rail, marine, AGVs, mining trucks and other off-highway vehicles, opportunity-charging e-buses and other high-utilisation EV fleets. Our materials also provide a unique value proposition for the micro-battery market and specific applications for the ESS, motorsports, and medical, markets.
Echion XNO® materials are based on proprietary mixed niobium oxide compositions and microparticle designs protected by 13 international patent families.
